Showing Up Differently: Edelman Digital in Canada

Last week, Edelman issued a bold statement with Show Up Differently. We did so not only as a branding campaign, but as a rallying cry for ourselves, our clients and our industry. As our CEO Richard Edelman states, “we believe that the combination of public relations, digital and research will allow us to build a new kind of marketing communications firm that can help clients both promote and protect their brands” in real time.

Today, I’m excited to share some news about Edelman Digital in Canada that will help our firm and our clients Show Up Differently. We’ve announced:

Several key appointments of senior, world-class digital leaders:

  • Dave Fleet, senior vice president, Canada East: An award-winning communicator and thought leader with extensive experience in digital strategy, global-scale social media, planning, community management, social business and content marketing.
  • Steven Park, senior vice president, Canada West: With 20 years of marketing experience – more than 15 in the digital sector – Steven focuses on digital campaign strategy and optimization, social media, mobile strategy, and community management.
  • Paul Ortchanian, vice president of technology: A technical expert and seasoned developer with expertise in graphic design and website development and a long history of driving cross-functional teams.

The creation of a dedicated physical space in Toronto to support our Creative Newsroom, which brings together content creators, creative directors, strategists, trend spotters, analysts, writers, editors and paid and earned media experts to deliver responsive and dynamic integrated digital marketing for our clients.

An online home for Edelman Digital in Canada - the dynamic, interactive site showcases client work, thought leadership, comprehensive capabilities and ongoing innovation. Like the Digital Practice itself, it will evolve on an ongoing basis while engaging users in new and different ways.

In reality, we’re living in a post-channel world. Digital (and PR, as my colleague Robyn Adelson writes) agencies are becoming media neutral, 360-degree marketing and communications leaders and programmers. Edelman’s heritage as a PR agency allows us to be a new type of marketing communications firm with storytelling and social at our core. Great brands are built on great ideas and great stories, not a specific type of agency built to service a specific channel or medium.
