This is probably the coolest thing I’ve seen in awhile. Berlin-based artists VR/URBAN have developed a digital slingshot called the “SMSling” that shoots text messages onto urban façades.
The wooden slingshot contains a built-in mobile that stores text messages. After the message has been created, the user can blast the message straight onto a nearby wall via a laser and colour projector. The text message is also real-time twittered.
What I love most about this device is its ability to make digital a little more tangible and give people the opportunity to create their own augmented reality within the communities they live.
As a Melburnian, I can see the City of Melbourne using the device to encourage people to interact with our urban landscape or as a way of steering people through city streets during a multi-location micro-festival.
I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts on how brands could utilise this new and artistic communication tool.
