Matthew Gain will join Edelman, the world’s largest independent public relations firm, in July to lead its digital capabilities in Australia and provide strategic counsel across the APAC region. Mr. Gain was formerly Head of Digital at Weber Shandwick where he led its digital practice across Asia-Pacific, providing digital and social media strategy to brands including MasterCard, Procter & Gamble, Vodafone and Samsung, among others.
Prior to joining Weber Shandwick, Mr. Gain worked in-house as consumer PR manager at Microsoft and has previously held roles with Edelman UK and Ogilvy PR Australia.
For almost a decade, Mr. Gain has led digital campaigns in Australia and internationally for leading consumer brands such as Microsoft, Xbox, Hyundai and Motorola, and brings a wealth of knowledge in the digital landscape.
Alan VanderMolen, President, Edelman Asia-Pacific, said: “Matthew’s appointment is about us continuing our major commitment in digital, in order to have highly relevant digital capabilities across geographic and practice areas. His hire reflects our belief that client campaigns require senior strategic advice in this area and that digital media is indeed mainstream.
Mr. Gain’s appointment comes on the heels of the Edelman appointments of a new Chief Executive Officer for Australia, Michelle Hutton, and a new General Manager for Sydney, Alexandra Kelly.
Mr. Gain explained: “Edelman’s reputation of being at the forefront of digital engagement is impressive and the main driver behind me joining the team. I’m delighted to be re-joining the firm and look forward to becoming a part of the industry-leading team.”
